GEOPOL® – Inorganic geopolymer binder system

An Environmental and Economical Solution for Key Foundry Industry Problems

GEOPOL® technology is an ecological geopolymer-based inorganic binder system producing moulds and cores from mixtures for casting ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

An inorganic geopolymer precursor with a low degree of polymerization serves as the binder. Either SA-series liquid hardeners or the effects of CO2; are used for curing. This creates an inorganic polymer whose characteristics enable the adhesive destruction of the grain envelopes, making the forms and cores superbly degradable at low temperatures, and enabling in turn efficient regeneration of reversible sand.

GEOTEK-brand curing accelerators are added to the CO2 mixture to achieve higher immediate tensile strengths and storage strengths with the CO2 process. Our specially-developed “SA” hardeners enable the use of a high percentage of reclaimed sand when preparing self-hardening mixtures.

Due to the special range of hardeners GEOPOL® can be used for production of self-hardening mixture with high percentage of reclaim sand. When curing with CO2 it is necessary to add the Geotek accelerator to achieve faster curing time and longer core storage.

Advantages of using the GEOPOL®Binder in comparison to Sodium Silicates:

    • Exhibits higher bonding strengths enabling lower addition levels. Normally between 1.8 – 2.5% depending on application.
      • Improved flowability giving higher mould density = Better surface finish.
      • Improved shake out.
      • Lower hydrogen potential – Alloy Steels.
      • Lower fume on moulding, pouring and shake out.
    • Hardener levels can be adjusted between 10 – 18%
      • more flexibility with strip time and bench life for a given hardener.
    • GEOPOL® can be mechanically reclaimed
      • Up to 50% single simple attrition.
      • Double or intensive attrition up to 90%.

GEOPOL® is suitable for production of moulds and cores using either a continuous or batch mixer. This binder system is possible to use for casting production from steel, cast iron and non-ferrous alloys. Is suitable for all types of sands – all quartz sands, olivine, chromit, zircon.

GEOPOL® technology brings substantial improvement of condition of hygiene and environmental parameters of production in environmental parameters of production compared with other practice and therefore helps to solve health and environmental problems in foundries
